Big Brother is watching.
The City of Cape Town was able to arrest a suspect just moments after he had carried out a smash-and-grab on Jakes Gerwel Drive near Bonteheuwel.
The suspect is believed to have been involved in quite a few incidents already, and has previously been arrested by cops. Mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, released a statement on the matter:
We hope that he is denied bail and that he is convicted and sent away for a long time.
The fact that this suspect has been arrested by the same officers before is an indictment on the criminal justice system. We need to start taking these types of crimes more seriously and holding those responsible to account if we’re ever going to put a stop to it.
Roughly an eight minute drive from the scene of the smash-and-grab is Langa, where the City’s Camera Response Unit (CRU) was on patrol. As the incident occurred, they were able to track the unfolding events using the cameras and assist in the arrest on the ground.
Just watch the video below to see how the CRU works with the cameras to track the suspect and make the arrest. While it’s shockingly scary, the cameras are too legit.
